Hello again! I hope your week is going well. Our house is ridden with sickness, and I’m doing my best to stay well! Near the end of pregnancy is not the time to be down and out with a cold or flu. Anyway, I’m continuing on my journey around Memphis, Tennessee today with a bit about our visit to the theatre!
For this trip, three of us ladies struck out to Memphis, and we did great with keeping us all happy in our exploring! One lady had been to Memphis several times before, and elected to spend sometime at a nearby casino just across the Mississippi River in Arkansas. The other two of us decided to catch a Broadway show at the Orpheum Theatre. This just might be one of my favorite experiences from the trip! Ok, second after Graceland. 😉 We saw Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. It was excellent! Definitely one of the best musicals and Broadway shows I have ever seen, and in a stunning theatre to boot. The music and story were incredible, and went sang Carole King tunes the whole way back to Texas! It was the perfect addition to our getaway.
The musical was made even better by the stunning theatre. The marquee lights, chandeliers, wallpapers & trimmings were incredible! Aside from the marquee outside the theatre, the building didn’t look to wow, but as soon as you walked in the doors you knew it would be a stunner! Inside the theatre itself were beautiful gold wood trims, striking red curtains, and showstopping chandeliers. Built in 1928, you can definitely feel the nostalgia, richness, and opulence of the 1920s! The Orpheum Theatre often hosts concerts and Broadway shows. Find more details on their website here. I hope you’ll add even just a stop here for a peek inside during your visit to Downtown Memphis!
